When you lie on the grass do you ever start itching? Allergies? Yep. Is your lawn Bermuda, Johnson, Timothy, Kentucky Bluegrass, Sweet Vernal, or Orchard grass? Why? Because these are the worst for allergy sufferers. When lawns get cut, pollen starts flying. It attaches to your clothes and pets and ends up in your home. What can you do besides allergy drops or shots? Vacuum and shower frequently.
Tree pollen…another problem: Do you have any of these trees within 50 miles of your home? Alder, ash, beech, birch, box elder, cedar, cottonwood, date palm, hickory, juniper, oak, palm trees, pecan, poplar, red & silver maple, sycamore, walnut, or willow? Why 50 miles? Because pollen can travel up to 50 miles on a strong wind.
What about weeds? Weeds are continuous pollen factories. Ragweed is the worst offender because a single plant can release up to 1 million grains of pollen per day. Just because you don’t have Ragweed in your area doesn’t mean your safe. Other problem weeds are English plantain, Lamb’s quarters, Red root, Russian thistle (or tumbleweed), and sagebrush.
